Interesting perspective. Must admit that I had not considered the control aspect. Just the cost and conspicuous over delivery. One wonders how many households really require and use the full bandwidth available - or could afford the data cost - for doing so. (Maybe turn into another version of the escalating mobile phone charges).

It would certainly seem quicker and cheaper to deliver the broadband to those businesses and community services that need the bandwidth and let the broadband evolve naturally for the homes.

I guess living in Florida I have a different perspective than you. Florida a Peninsula State has 1700 Coastal Islands, 500,000 acres of Mangroves, the Everglades which has 10,000 islands and covers most of south Florida, Inter Coastal Waterways, and Coral Reefs. To date over 400,000,000 (million) gallons of crude have gushed into the Gulf. While the crude may be of little consequence by the time it gets to the Horn Of Africa. The damage it will do to Florida and the Gulf Coast will be devastating. The actual oil slick you see on the surface is only 1/10th of the actual slick which is being kept underwater by BP's dispersants. The Oyster beds in Louisiana have already been killed and will not come back for decades. So while the damage is miniscule on a Global scale, it is in fact devastating to us here on the Gulf Coast. And remember the Gulf Stream begins in the Gulf of Mexico but it curcumnavigates the Globe.

Hi The term you are ;looking for is disruptive technology.

"Disruptive technology is a term coined by Harvard Business School professor Clayton M. Christensen to describe a new technology that unexpectedly displaces an established technology. "

Would be interested to see one appear here, but am curious to know what the energy input to the converter/source might be.

PS re the light bulb - the light bulb is 100% efficient in converting electricity to heat and light. The heat component is overlooked, but in (I suspect) most situations the heat makes a useful contribution and reduces energy consumption by normal heating methods.

Reading your last paragraph, it would seem to apply to making sales to family and friends (a difficult and sometimes contentious issue). Sure they would know like and trust you (at least I would hope so) but doubt that you can deliver, as it where, because they know that you are in a new field/business and doubt you have the background and training to deliver.

Something like a prophet has no honor in his own country <g>

Statistical information about the Economy and Recession. It serves as a motivation to survive and also reminds us of what role recession can play.
