Marketing – Entrepreneurship

I followed a classic Industrial Age career – got a qualification, followed by a secure job, retire at 60 – taking a cut in income to do so, you know the plan.

No, the downside really followed retirement.

After the initial euphoria of retirement I had to face the consequence of a income, rather less that I had been used to. Those overseas holidays, replacing capital items, and the like began to look like a faded dream.

Not that my retirement package was not what I expected, it was – government guaranteed superannuation with COL indexing – no problems? I had it all covered, right?

Well maybe there was a problem- for a start the guaranteed income was less than I had become accustomed, sounds familiar? This required some compromises in lifestyle, also the income was exactly determined for the rest of my life – no more promotions, bonuses, salary increases; what I had was exactly what I was going to get. This can get hard to take.

In addition the super increments are tied to cost of living – fine but that locked me forever into the reduced lifestyle – But we live in a prosperous growing economy, don’t we? – people in the workforce are improving their standard of living – just as I’m adapting to reducing mine where the fun in that?

I might have, accepting the constraints of a retiree’s lifestyle, if I had not been health challenged, in 2000, This eventually brought me to to Wellness based Health Regime.

First as a customer – followed by a decision to step outside the square and develop the related business opportunity.

As I learn more about this form of business – I realise that it would have better had I understood this earlier and have developed alternative income streams while I was still in the workforce – to ensure that I had more income and a “growth” potential in retirement.

So much easier to do when surrounded with people with discretionary income to invest. I console myself with the though that Network marketing has come a long way in the last decade – maybe suitable business were not available to me, at the time!!!

So what does your retirement look like – are you planning to live on less that your current income, is your income plan secure with plenty of built in growth or are you approaching retirement as I did?

Maybe you can adapt to the retirement life – many people do, or maybe you will be like me, when your time comes and fight the implications of the senior’s life all the way. At least at this point you can’t say you were not told.
